Widely recognized for his role in the contemporary revival of classicism, Smith’s work is the subject of “Thomas Gordon Smith: The Rebirth of Classical Architecture,” published by Andreas Papadakis Publishers. The book highlights the central role Smith has played in the revival of classicism in contemporary architecture in America during the past two decades and examines his influential role as educator, commentator on the Roman architect Vitruvius, historian of the Greek Revival, painter of frescoes, and designer and collector of furniture. Smith teaches and writes on American Grecian architecture and furniture design and has edited and published books on the works of Vitruvius and their pertinence to contemporary architecture. He also has a practice in residential and institutional design whose projects have included a 100,000-square-foot seminary, a parish church and a Benedictine monastery.
