Areas of Expertise
Fluid mechanics, aircraft design, aeronautics industry
Corke has made numerous significant contributions to the study and understanding of fluid mechanics. He is the author of “Design of Aircraft,” which demonstrates how theoretical aspects of airplane aerodynamics, aircraft structures, stability and control, propulsion and compressible flows can be applied to produce a new conceptual aircraft design. Corke served as a member of a National Academy of Engineering committee that issued a survey aimed at guiding the future of NASA’s aeronautical research. He also is founding director of Notre Dame’s Center for Flow Physics and Control, which develops techniques for modifying fluid flows to achieve a desired outcome in technologically important applications.
