Areas of Expertise
Social and emotional development in infancy and early childhood
As a child development expert, Braungart-Rieker’s research runs the gamut – from the effects of parents reading to their kids to the involvement of fathers in children’s lives. Her work focuses on a myriad of issues that concern raising socially and emotionally well-balanced children through infancy and early childhood. Her research examines how children’s characteristics, such as gender and temperament, as well as parenting practices and contextual factors within the family unit including earner status and marital satisfaction allow children to develop compliance and autonomy. Braungart-Rieker has been instrumental in Notre Dame’s ongoing study of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), working on a team of psychologists to develop and implement interventions for the disorder.
