Child development, learning in children, intelligence-related differences in learning, intelligence and memory development in children, adolescents and parents
Borkowski’s scholarship, which concerns the developmental processes of learning and memory across the entire life span, uniquely combines objective observation and human compassion. His studies have focused especially on the mentally challenged, the learning-disabled, the gifted and the aged. Particularly interested in understanding and addressing child abuse and neglect, he has conducted a 15-year study of teenage parenting and the plight of children born to adolescent mothers during the 1980’s. He recently warned of a “perfect storm” which could overwhelm many American families in the wake of the current economic crisis and which could precipitate a sharp increase the rate of child abuse and neglect.
